Hi there. Welcome to my first blog.
This is where I share my thoughts, news and really inspiring stuff that I read or have learn as I believe all artist learn more by sharing.
I just read an awesome book by Carol Marine "Daily Painting: Painting Small and Often to Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist".
While the gist of the book is about painting small pieces of work daily (practice, practice, practice), what I what to share here is her top 6 mistakes students make. In summary:
I really like those points above especially if you're into painterly strokes. Carol's painting are bold, full of life and a certain looseness which I really admire. And this is probably from her years of experimenting and finding her own style.
Her book is full of such gems that you really need to get hold of one yourself. And no, I'm not in anyway gaining from this financially. I just think it's a really good book not only for beginners but for seasoned artist, you will learn to find ways to beat artists block, how to get re-inspired and where to sell your lovely creations, for a profit!
Hope you like the above.

While the gist of the book is about painting small pieces of work daily (practice, practice, practice), what I what to share here is her top 6 mistakes students make. In summary:
- Being cheap! Not using enough paint or buying cheap paint, which in turn leads to frustration.
- Being lazy! Not cleaning their brushes often or well enough. So the wrong paint ends up graying down or lighting up what should have been a saturated color.
- Being emotionally attached! Let go, move on and learn if you've made a mistake.
- Having tunnel vision! Not seeing the forest for the trees - students tend to compare colors , values, etc only in one small area each time rather than the whole painting.
- Having detail-itis! Missing the big picture due to fussing too much with the details.
- Believing that lines are God! Not straying from the lines of drawing creates hard, tight lines.
